Mozhi is another descent family flick from Prakash Raj. Directed by Radha Mohan, the movie is running to packed houses even after weeks of its release. Mozhi has given Jyothika the opputunity to show her acting prowess, its once in a lifetime a female actor gets such chance in tamil cinema but Jyothika has got it twice and she has made hay while the sun was still shining on her.
Be it a protagonist or an antagonist Prithviraj shines on the silver screen, thanks to his flawless dialogue delivery and charisma. When i saw Prithviraj in his previous tamil film Paarijatham directed by K.Bhagyaraj, the actor was showing the director through his body language and dialogue delivery, man ! that did bowl me over !!! Prakash Raj did a solid role and added to the humour quotient of the film along with Prithviraj. Swarnamalya too had the opportunity for a very vibrant role for which she does all the justice.
Mozhi is a damn good film which moves along the lines of a person who is deaf and dumb. Unable to speak or hear is not a disability but a chance to communicate in other different ways, says the film. The movie deals with a heavy subject but the storyline flows smoothly and keeps the subject steady. Mozhi is the last film for Jyothika and thank god she did this movie, her successful career in this industry would have been of no use if she had quit acting with her previous movie. Jyothika, Prithviraj and Swarnamalya actually learnt the sign language for the movie’s sake. Jyothika goes a step further to learn to use her left hand for the sign language.
Music is another actor in this movie who dances to the tunes of Vidyasagar. Infact after the lead actors, music is the best part about the movie. Technically the movie is not brilliant but the story and the way it is told surely is brilliant. Its definitely worth a second watch. Thanks to Ashwin i finally saw this movie, he was the one who went all the way to Satyam to get tickets reserved.
And there was this awesome line in one of the songs,
Iyarkaiyin mozhigal purindhuvidu
Manidhanin mozhigal thevayillai
Idhayathin mozhigal purindhuvidu
Manidharku mozhiye thevaiyillai
The song has to be heard to get the real feel of it. A good job by Vidyasagar all through the movie except for the rather too loud and jarry songs which irritates all the nerves inside the ear.
