A non stop 10 hours movie marathon called the Roof Top Film Festival started an hour after schedule on a Saturday evening, there was a continuous screening of movies till 6 am on Sunday when the sunlight interrupted the Brownian movement. Sidd’s terrace was an excellent choice with mattress spread all over the floor, a huge screen and excellent speakers to boost the move watching experience.
A crowd that comprised of film makers, film critics, film lovers and film pirates had assembled on time with lot of energy in themselves to stay awake the entire night. The RTFF started with David Slade’s Hard Candy which happened to be an edge of the mattress thriller. The audience wouldn’t look anywhere other than the screen and even ignored all the chips and pop corn till the movie got over. A serious discussion was started off by Sudhish and Nandhu in the most informal way with a lot of knowledge being shared.
The next movie was Blood Simple by the Coen Brothers which was a crime thriller. The title did justice with blood simply flowing in every other scene. This is too good a movie to be made as a debut one. Blood Simple is a must watch for every crime thriller lover. Discussions followed and the movie was dissected and a detailed postmortem was done which was very much needed for a movie like Blood Simple where the audience failed to get a few scenes.
A parody on America and its war attitude by K.P.Sasi was screened followed by a small video on Call Centre and BPO culture that is entering every other country. In the short film category, Hi Dad which I made with my friends Krishna, Fenn and Sundar was screened. The movie got a lot of positive and negative feedback from the film making and film critic crowd present.
Woody Allen’s Annie Hall was the screened next. After serious movies like Hard Candy and Blood Simple, Annie Hall was a lighter one with descent comedy all through the movie. Woody Allen is a class apart when it comes to humour.
Sudhish’s That Four Letter Word came up next. TFLW is a movie which has to be watched with friends over some drinks and chips. Its not a serious movie and it revolves around the life of four friends and a thread is nicely woven around the script in the lines of career and love. I had watched this movie already during its premiere in the Chennai International Film Fest and I dint like it much. The second time was during the VIP screening at Satyam and I did like the movie, and in the third screening at RTFF, I really loved this movie. Like A.R.Rahman’s music, this movie doesn’t appeal the first time but it gradually grows on the audience. Sudhish was also kind enough to screen some scenes from the earlier versions of TFLW which was shot with Abbas and a descent budget on a DigiBeta which gave a grand look and a film’s texture to the movie in terms of depth.
The Sun was now almost bright and there was no point in screening another movie, peeps were also feeling drowsy and even the word of screening another movie would have caused a fatigue. RTFF finally came to an end with positive feedback from everyone and due to pubic request, there will be more editions of this fest in the coming months, preferably after the exams.
The projector was brought by Suraksha while Syed donated the screen. If all you guys were able to comfortably place your ass, say thanks to Jump for the mattress. Baggy took care of the speakers while Gapp apart from co organising had his share in the mattress and speakers. If you guys have any of these unused at home and dont mind sharing it and also love movies, we would love to have you as a part of RTFF. Sudhish was responsible for the unlimited porn* available at the RTFF.
